Bill Douglas
We are honored to name the Determinetruth Board of Directors after Bill Douglas. Bill has been a true friend and a trusted supporter of Rob and the ministry of Determinetruth. We love you, Bill!
Bill is married to Geri Douglas. He has three kids and two grandchildren.
In 1967, Bill was drafted into the United States Army, where he served as an Infantryman (11-B) with Bravo Company, 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division, fighting in the I-Corps of South Vietnam. Rising to the rank of Sergeant E-5, he credited his survival during the tumultuous times of war to the bravery and skills of his foxhole buddy, David Weber, and the leadership of Cpt/Major John Pipia.
On Jan 2, 1968, David Weber, Bill’s Vietnam combat brother, wrote a letter home about the day-long battle that they had just survived. In that letter describing the opening maneuvers of the day’s battle, David wrote what Bill hopes is a statement that could be said as the epithet of his life, “ … Pushed on with old Doug [Bill] by my side. You never had to worry about old Doug, for he would always be by your side, moving with you.”
A commitment to public service marked Bill's career. In 1970, he began working for the Kern County Sheriff's Department. Over the next eleven years, he rose through the ranks, achieving the position of Sergeant. He continued his commitment to law enforcement as the General Manager of the Kern Law Enforcement Association from 1981 to 1988. He was later recruited to serve as the County of Kern's Employee Relations Officer, a position he held until his retirement in 2008.
Rob met Bill in 2015, when Bill began attending his church in Bakersfield. For much of Rob's time as lead Pastor in Bakersfield, Bill served on the board of elders (Presbyterians call it the session). Bill was an excellent support for Rob---and we all know how much help Rob needs! Bill wasn't afraid to speak the truth or to offer advice on how things might be done better.
Bill and Geri became good friends of Rob and Toni. They were key supporters of the church-planting endeavor and of outreach efforts in the community.
When Rob began to consider launching Determinetruth, Bill was one of the first people he called. When Determinetruth was formally launched, Bill joyfully accepted the role of Determinetruth's first board member.
